There is also their economic prosperity to consider. Those little messages in the lower left corner that tell you (insert place name here) has gone from Average to Poor, are the results of neglecting your properties. When you help them out, they can grow and improve to the next level.I don't have the patience to actually figure it out but I do know that doing quests for them makes them better which increases the rents they pay each week.

The pay off is much more when you are dealing with cities but I take it as a point of pride to make all of my properties the very best they can be.Besides, by the time you have a few cities, castles and a villages, you probably already have the stuff you want and are raking in cash from all the businesses around the region.what else are you gonna do with your money? The problem is that once you start to care about the villages, the enemy uses that to manipulate you. They target your holdings and love to send fast raiders to launch feint-attacks. They begin to plunder the village, knowing that you will recieve a messge about it but they are long gone by the time you get there. If your stuff is spread out, this nonsense can drive you batty! From a cost/benefit perspective, you probably spend more than you get back from villages.

No matter what, you must have a positive relationship with them to get recruits though. The upgrades all have value in game terms as well: Messenger Post sends you reports when they get attacked, Watchtower.I'm not sure but I think it either makes attacks less frequent or might make them take more time to burn it down, Schools increase the number of recruits available from like 5 or 6 to 25 or more at a time, the Manor allows you 'Wait here for some time' as an option. The rents and tariffs in cities are significant though and your efforts there will certainly pay off.Besides, what's a hero supposed to do if not herding cows for ungrateful peasants.lol. If you take actions to upset the opposing faction (attacking them and not releasing lords you capture, and do things that are generally considered 'dishonorable') your villages will get attacked far more frequently. One time when I was playing as a dishonorable guy the raiding parties would traverse the entirety of my faction, leaving everything intact on thier way to my village which they would then try to loot. It was also frequently a specific group of lords I had managed to make true enemies out of.

Jep, you did say ' you get better and more troops when you build a school' which repeats the point I made earlier but you also say, 'but schools do not directly increase that'. So I'm confused.Exactly what am I being corrected on?Sesh, I've found that the enemy will harrass the player even when you are playing like a Paladin too. I find they focus in on one of my villages and send their armies one at a time unitl they sack it. Protecting that village becomes a full-time job. If there are two wars going on, they will all tag team my village.argh! They do tend to chill out a bit when I put their King in one of my prisons but that is about the only way to slow them down that I know of.Them dirty birds! I think it has nothing to do with honorable actions. The program hits you the harder the more success you have (early in game).

I played like a Paladin, but got early in the game 2 cities and a castle. The game sent more and more massive troops all over the continent just to take them away from me while my allied lords stayed passive as chickens (though I had high reputation with them). All other nearer and better to conquer goals of my faction were totally ignored. The rampage stopped as I let the program got all it wanted (my cities and the castle) and normality came back. Sometimes I have a paranoid feeling about the KI of the program code. I think it hates me, and only me ))))))). (just a joke)No, serious, sometimes I have the feeling the program gets in a rage until it got what it want and then you can again conquer a city and live more inpeace.

Some weired program code. I don't think the AI targets you specifically. There are lots of dishonorable lords out there.

If you defeat them in battle or raid their villages, they will 'get even' by raiding your fiefs when war is declared. The player usually wins a lot of battles, thus these lords will have grudges.Secondly, the AI is programmed to attack the most prosperous villages which makes sense. If you want to hurt the economy of your enemy, you'll go after their most prosperous centers first. Because the human tends to manage better, the human player often has the most prosperous villages. Thus it seems he is being picked on, but really isn't.

A Blitzkrieg of Swadia was declared and Praven taken by masssive hordes of swadian units, the Norths and Khergits declared war and took first my well garnisoned Khudan (later Sargoth), while my 'allied' Vaegirlords took Ichamur and didnt care about all the other.

Then peace was declared with all ))) lol. I think sometimes you ARE targeted. No chance against all these massive Armies. Ok, Khudan got rich, but that all these armies worked together and went through the continent just to take the far away Khudan (Sargoth was also Vaegirs and first totally ignored, though with only a small garnison).

Sometimes funny how the things go in the campaign mode.
