Deadly Strike Diablo 2
Crushing Blow is a Diablo II combat mechanic that appears as a Chance on Hit mod on several Unique, Set or Rune Word items. The game will roll for the chance for the mechanic to occur on every eligible melee or ranged attack.
50% Chance of Crushing BlowA 50% Chance of dealing Crushing Blow is massive.Crushing Blow is a modifier that only pops up on Unique, Runewords or Set items. With a successful Crushing Blow on your target, you will reduce their Life by a certain%, which is determined by the weapon you are using, and whether the target is another player, a normal monster or one of the stronger monsters in Diablo 2, ie. Champion, Uniques, Bosses). If you also equip your character with Steelrend (Unique Gauntlets- 10%), and Goreriders (Unique Boots -15%) and you already have a 75% Chance of Crushing Blow, which means that you will trigger Crushing Blow on about a third of your attacks.+(0.5 per Character Level) 0.5-49.5% Deadly Strike (Based on Character Level)If you equip your character with a Death Runeword weapon just as you've hit the minimum level of 55, you immediately have a Deadly Strike ability of 27.5%.Deadly Strike in Diablo 2 gives your character an X% chance of dealing double damage. The damage is doubled after all other bonuses are taken into consideration (except for the Critical Strike bonus which also deals double damage). If you are fortunate enough to have a melee character have both Critical Strike and Deadly Strike, the game rolls for one of the two first (either Deadly Strike or Critical Strike).
If the roll for that fails, then the game rolls for the other bonus. If the first roll succeeds, then no second roll is needed. The ability to do double damage is very important to a lot of players, whether it be for PvM or PvP.Summary:The Death Runeword is often compared to the Grief Runeword in terms of damage output. In comparison, Grief consistently pips Death on damage output, but then it is also slightly more expensive. Plus, the Crushing Blow on Death is an attractive mod for characters going after a Crushing Blow setup (both Runewords create the Deadly Strike mod on their weapons).

Players do agree however that the Death Runeword is still a very, very good weapon Runeword in both PvM and PvP.Special Note:To receive the 385% Enhanced Damage maximum for this Runeword on a one-handed weapon (which has a max at 170% for normal), you must use a Superior one-handed weapon. However, if a two-handed weapon is used the max can be increased to 400% Enhanced Damage (max set at 185% for normal) when a Superior two-handed weapon is used.
